Piston Liner Removal Tool

How to Use

1. Pick up threaded rod, nuts, and washers from the hardware store that fit each other, plus a plate of aluminum or steel sized to span over all 4 head bolt holes.
2. Drill a hole through the center of the plate sized to fit your threaded rod.
3. Thread a nut and washer onto one end of the rod, then thread the tool on next to it and secure it in place with a nut and washer on either side.
4. Thread the factory head bolt nuts back onto the block's head bolt studs first — this protects the threads from the plate.
5. Carefully feed the rod, with the tool on the end, down through the piston liner.
6. Slide the plate down over the rod and head bolt studs so it rests on top of the head bolt nuts.
7. Thread a washer and nut onto the top of the rod and hand-tighten to secure the plate.
8. Before tightening further, check that the head bolt nuts sit level under the plate on all sides — this keeps the pulling force even.
9. Slowly tighten the top nut. You'll see the piston liner start to walk out of the block.
10. Keep tightening gradually and evenly until the liner is fully free.

Careful: Be very careful when removing the liner once it's loose — mishandling it here is the most common way to damage a liner you plan to reuse. Go slow and don't force anything that feels off; doing this wrong can damage your liners.
